MICAS – Heavy duty roof support structure

Makaw Scaffolding was entrusted to design, install and certify one of the largest scaffolding structures ever carried out in Malta till to date in order to serve as a temporary support structure for the construction of steel and glass roof within the newly constructed Malta International Contemporary Arts Space - MICAS. The scaffolding structure has been designed to receive a distributed load of 4,000kg each 3 meter point load whilst also providing a fully boarded platform in order to provide safe access for the operatives to install and finish all the steel work which was to be connected on a section by section basis. This project required the successful implementation of Makaw Scaffoldings core strongholds which are : 1)- Pre commencement design and engineering of the structure 2)- An extensive stockpile consuming in exceess of 1,200 tons of Layher allround equipment at one instance 3)- Execution by fully accredited and dedicated scaffolders which are some of the best within the Mediterranean region

Makaw Scaffolding was entrusted with the design and installation of this freestanding scaffolding structure around one of the main areas of Malta's international airport in order for this structure to provide a freestanding and safe access for concrete repair works and refurbishment around this main structure. Additional lifting frame structures were designed in accordance with the Safe Working load requirements of the client in order for goods to be mechanically hoisted to the required working areas. Due to logistical and working hour restrictions maximum attention was taken taken into account by our design team during the initial phases of this project to ensure that exact design drawings were provided to client for their review in order to ensure full compliance with their requirements and ensure maximum efficiency for material delivery on site which had to be done by partial road closure and using a 150 ton mobile crane.
